Not every application requires a standard immersible pump. In some installations, pumps are exposed to high temperatures, aggressive chemicals and demanding operating conditions where maximum reliability is essential. For these challenging processes, ARBO developed the HD-DO-L: a heavy-duty plastic immersion pump designed for long-term operation under the toughest conditions.
The development of the HD-DO-L began with a specific customer request. In a high-temperature hydrochloric acid application, a standard solution proved insufficiently resistant to the combination of elevated temperatures, aggressive vapours and continuous operational loads.
The challenge was clear: develop a more robust pump construction that not only withstands severe chemical conditions but also delivers maximum operational reliability when downtime is not an option.
Although the original request arose from a single application, it quickly became apparent that the same need exists across many industries. Chemical installations are being subjected to increasingly demanding operating conditions, processes are running for longer periods and maintenance windows are becoming shorter. As a result, demand is growing for pumps that are specifically engineered for critical applications.
The HD-DO-L is not a replacement for an existing product range but an extension of the ARBO portfolio. This pump has been developed for applications where a standard immersion pump no longer provides sufficient operational assurance.
Typical applications include:
In these applications, not only chemical resistance but also mechanical reliability under demanding operating conditions is of paramount importance.
Robust Construction for Maximum Operational Reliability
The HD-DO-L features a reinforced mechanical design. The pump is equipped with a separate bearing unit incorporating oversized regreasable bearings and a heavy-duty pump shaft. This ensures stable operation even under continuous loads and fluctuating process conditions.
In addition, a flexible coupling between the motor and pump reduces sensitivity to vibration and extends the service life of the entire installation.
By utilising standard IEC motors, customers are not dependent on special motor versions with extended shafts. This results in greater flexibility, lower maintenance costs and shorter lead times.
In many chemical processes, not only the liquids themselves present a challenge. Aggressive vapours can also have a significant impact on the service life of an installation.
For this reason, the HD-DO-L is fitted with a plastic gas seal containing no metal components. This design provides excellent chemical resistance and prevents vapour emissions, even when the pump is not operating.
For applications involving extremely aggressive media, versions are available in high-performance materials such as HMPE1000 and PTFE.
The HD-DO-L combines its robust construction with impressive performance. Depending on the configuration, capacities of up to approximately 300 m³/h and heads of up to around 80 metres can be achieved.
With immersion lengths of approximately 700 mm, the pump offers a wide range of applications across diverse process installations.
In addition, an optimised hydraulic design of the pump casing and impeller ensures high efficiency and reliable performance throughout the pump’s entire service life.
The HD-DO-L has been developed for companies that refuse to compromise on reliability. Where standard immersion pumps reach their limits, this heavy-duty version provides the robustness, chemical resistance and operational reliability required for continuously operating process installations.
With the HD-DO-L, ARBO delivers a powerful solution for the most demanding applications within the chemical process industry.
