Rolls-Royce once again chooses ARBO pumps

More than 25 years ago, ARBO Pumps & Filters, through Georg Fischer, supplied the first pumps to Rolls-Royce Submarines Limited. The first installation was commissioned in 1990.

Now, more than a quarter of a century later, Rolls-Royce has once again chosen ARBO. Through our dealer AMS Hayley, we recently supplied a centrifugal pump with a PTFE (better known as Teflon) pump housing and an impeller made of PVDF, both materials chosen for their excellent chemical resistance and durability. The two new pumps were delivered to the production facility in the United Kingdom.

A special partnership

The cooperation with Rolls-Royce is of particular significance to ARBO. In the 1980s and 1990s, pumps made of PVC and stainless steel 316 were supplied, materials commonly used at that time. The fact that our pumps have operated reliably in this critical environment for so many years is the strongest proof of their quality and durability.

From then to now

Today, we rely on more advanced materials such as PVDF and Teflon-like plastics, ideally suited for handling aggressive and critical chemicals. The most recent delivery to Rolls-Royce will be used in the production of nuclear fuel for the Royal Navy’s submarines. This once again underlines the value of ARBO pumps in highly specialized applications.

"It is remarkable to see that a client like Rolls-Royce, after so many years, has once again chosen ARBO technology," says Martijn van den Born, Managing Director of ARBO Pumps & Filters. "This proves that quality and reliability remain essential, even in the most demanding applications."

Continuity and development

Although the new pumps have been completely redesigned, some components remain interchangeable with the original pumps supplied 25 years ago. The same operating principle – pumps with a mechanical shaft seal – is still applied today, yet further developed and optimized with the latest materials and components.

With this delivery, a new chapter is added to the long-standing relationship between ARBO, AMS Hayley, and Rolls-Royce – a partnership we are proud of.
